An online fundraising campaign launched on Tuesday by a Sydney billionaire who gave $2,500 to the Liberal National Party has been met with an outpouring of support from some of the state’s most vulnerable citizens.
The NSW Liberal Party says Mr Hogg has donated $1.5 million since 2004 and has pledged $1 million more over the next six years to help fund its state-level political parties.
The Liberal National party says it is committed to a $1 billion infrastructure package.
Mr Hagg, a former Sydney barrister and businessman who has contributed to political parties across NSW and Australia, is a major donor to the party in recent years, giving more than $500,000 to its candidates since 2004.
A former chairman of the NSW Liberal party, Mr Higg also gave $1,000 on behalf of the party to a friend in the past.
He has also donated $500 to several state Labor parties.
